Judge Ramona Gonzalez became the first woman and the first person of color on the bench in La Crosse County when she was elected in April 1995. Judge Gonzalez has been active with the NCJFCJ, where she was the first president born outside of the U.S. In 2019 during her time as president, Judge Gonzalez testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
