Dealing with Grief and Loss in Your JDTC
with Rosalyn Thomas and Brent Vaughn
Tuesday, April 19
11 a.m. PST | 2 p.m. EST
Understanding how to deal with grief and loss in a juvenile drug treatment court can be challenging. In this session, JDTC professionals will share their experiences with the loss of program participants and will discuss the steps they took in the immediate aftermath of the loss and the steps they put in place to deal with any future losses.
As a result of this webinar participants will be able to:
- Identify policies and procedures to put into place to address communication during a tragic event.
- Describe strategies for helping the JDTC participants address their emotions during a tragic event.
- Understand the role of the JDTC staff during a tragic event.

Rosalyn Thomas
Roz Thomas has worked with at-risk youth and families in various roles over the past twenty years. Her work has encompassed: research evaluation liaison in a national research study; creation of program data dashboards and data collection tools to measure impact and outcomes; creation and development of case management tools; data visualization and reporting; project management of events and trainings; establishment of community and partner relations; development and coordination of prosocial and family engagement models; development of customized incentive and sanction structures; and so much more. Her work in the community has included mentorship and working with domestic sex-trafficking victims and ‘at risk’ teen girls. Her goal is to expand this work overseas to Asia and build safe havens for endangered children.
With a strong passion to see youth excel in their home, school, and community, Roz has worked in collaboration with court teams and community partners to launch creative and innovative projects to implement evidence-based practices in drug courts. Recently, Roz had the opportunity to work with a judicial court in Trinidad and Tobago in a training model based on the JDTC guidelines with data collection tools, customization of data dashboards, and customized reports for data analysis. This court will be a model for all Caribbean courts as a result of the training and data support administered.
Roz continues to expand her reach in service to at-risk youth and families to make a difference and create lasting change.
