Organized by the State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program and a local non-profit, the Northern Nevada International Center, delegates from Saudi Arabia visited the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges office in Reno, NV. NCJFCJ staff shared the training and technical assistance we provide to judges, court staff, and other professionals, including our various programs and publications relating to domestic violence. The delegates also shared information about their work to address domestic violence. It was an animated and engaging exchange. Sharing our various programs and publications relating to domestic violence, as well as sharing how our organization educates and trains communities around the nation and the world about domestic violence.
The meeting focused on:
- Exploring best practices for implementing and institutionalizing domestic violence legislation.
- Discussing techniques to identify forms of domestic violence, report, abuse, prosecute abusers, and provide assistance to victims of domestic violence.
- Examining education and outreach initiatives to raise awareness about domestic violence and counter societal and cultural taboos surrounding the issue.
- Discussing ways to improve child protection services and overcome the legal and physical limitations on the ability of women and children to escape violent home environments.
- Describing organizational approaches to improving national policy and system practices affecting children, families, and survivors.
