The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women (OVW), and the Battered Women’s Justice Project (BWJP), is offering an interactive virtual training for custody evaluators guiding their work with families experiencing domestic violence. Evaluators will learn from a team of judicial officers, custody evaluators, and civil-legal advocates experienced in handling these cases and developing creative solutions to the challenges they present for evaluators. Participants will leave this training with a nuanced understanding of how domestic violence impacts family dynamics and a framework for approaching their work and minimizing the harm to the adults and children involved.
There is no registration fee. Space for this training is limited to 40 evaluators. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come-first-served basis until we reach capacity. Due to the varying requirements of different jurisdictions and disciplines, the NCJFCJ does not seek prior accreditation of educational programs for CLE/CEU credits. A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to you upon completion of the program that you can submit to your certifying agency. Please consult the rules of your jurisdiction regarding procedures for receiving continuing education credits. This program may qualify for up to: 11 CLE/CEUs based on a 60-minute hour.
Note: This training is designed to enhance the work of the broad spectrum of professionals who conduct child custody evaluations and make recommendations to the court in cases involving domestic violence. We especially encourage court-based professionals to apply to participate in the program. Guardians ad litem are encouraged to consider alternative training programs tailored to their processes and expertise, such as this self-paced online course.
