This StateScan publication is the 4th in a series that distills important knowledge from NCJJ’s new Juvenile Justice Geography, Policy, Practice & Statistics website. The author, Andrew Wachter, organizes results from a 51-jurisdiction survey that addresses the landscape of standardized mental health screening in juvenile justice. This publication focuses on standardizing mental health screening tools that are required at the state-level in juvenile detention, probation and correction settings. This original analysis highlights the variety of tools in use across the Nation and how screening protocols differ across basic juvenile justice services. The publication is a companion to a previously authored Statewide Risk Assessment in Juvenile Probation that explores the adaptation of risk assessment tools in juvenile probation.
