This webinar, taught by Judge H. Lee Chitwood, with the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Pulaski VA, Dr. Barbara Boat, faculty with the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and Jamie Contreras, an attorney with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, will familiarize judges, attorneys, and child- and youth-serving professionals with the research on the links between animal abuse, child abuse, and juvenile offending, including the impact of exposure to violence against animals on children and their subsequent risks for offending behavior. The faculty will address what judges should ask about when handling a juvenile offending case involving animal harm and also what judges need to know and should request when it comes to evaluations and interventions for youth with animal cruelty offenses.
