The United Nations children’s agency estimates 1.8 million children are trafficked into the global sex trade every year. Although there is misconception among Americans that this mainly happens to children of poorer countries, children of all races and ethnicities are trafficked and sold online.
Judge John Romero Jr., Immediate Past President of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and leading child trafficking expert, identifies children who have run away from home or are homeless, Native Americans and Alaska Natives, and LGBTQ+ youth to be the most vulnerable.
