The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges’ (NCJFCJ) endorses the Conference of Chief Justices’ (CJJ) Resolution 1, In Support of Reauthorization of Court Improvement Programs (CIP). CCJ’s Resolution 1 is consistent with the Resolution adopted by the NCJFCJ Membership in 2001 and the Position Statement adopted by its Executive Committee in 2016, encouraging continuing support for these programs and affirming that children across the country have benefited by this funding, which has enabled courts and child welfare agencies to improve the processing of child abuse and neglect cases with the goal of placing children in permanent and safe homes.
The NCJFCJ joins the Conference of Chief Justices in urging Congress to continue to support the three CIP grant programs so that state courts are able to sustain, enhance, and expand child welfare reforms.
The NCJFCJ has also endorsed the Conference of Chief Justices’ (CJJ) Resolution 2, In Support of the Violence Against Women Act.
CCJ’s Resolution 2 is consistent with Resolutions adopted by the NCJFCJ Membership in 1999 and 2001 calling for continuation of the Office for Violence Against Women and continued appropriations to ensure uninterrupted program operation and appropriation for judicial education on domestic violence issues, judicial response and good practice.
The NCJFCJ joins the Conference of Chief Justices in urging Congress to continue to support the provisions and programs of the Violence Against Women Act and to provide sufficient federal funding to all entities involved in addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking; and in encouraging Congress to sustain and ensure that state courts are able to access the federal grant funds specifically targeted to assist state courts, including allocating funds directly to state courts when the purpose of the funds is to assist state courts to implement the provisions and programs of the Violence Against Women Act.
