In the U.S., children can be arrested for status offenses which include skipping school, running away from home or disobedience to parents, among others.
However, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges now advocates for a service oriented approach that keeps youth in their community. Research suggests that juveniles who are sentenced in their communities have improved outcomes.
