Black girls are criminalized at alarming rates due to negative societal stereotypes and thus are punished more often and more harshly than their white peers.
Experts say that Black girls don’t misbehave more or commit more serious infractions. However, they are nearly six times more likely to get out-of-school suspension than white counterparts.
