This Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Fact Sheet presents statistics on delinquency cases handled in U.S. juvenile courts between 1985 and 2008. From 1985 through 1997, the number of delinquency cases handled climbed steadily (63 percent) and from 1997 through 2008, the delinquency caseload dropped 12 percent. Juvenile courts handled 44 percent more cases in 2008 than in 1985. This Fact Sheet is based on the report Juvenile Court Statistics 2008.
