This Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Fact Sheet presents statistics on petitioned delinquency cases waived to criminal court between 1985 and 2008. The number of delinquency cases judicially waived peaked in 1994 at 13,700 cases, which represented a 90 percent increase over the number of cases waived in 1985 (7,200). In 2008, juvenile courts waived an estimated 8,900 delinquency cases, 35 percent fewer cases than in 1994. This Fact Sheet is based on the report Juvenile Court Statistics 2008.
