Describes delinquency cases handled between 1985 and 2007 and petitioned status offense cases handled between 1995 and 2007 by U.S. courts with juvenile jurisdiction. Courts with juvenile jurisdiction may handle a variety of matters, including child abuse and neglect, traffic violations, child support, and adoptions. This OJJDP Report, the 78th report in the Juvenile Court Statistics series, focuses on cases involving juveniles charged with law violations (delinquency or status offenses). The data used in the analyses were contributed to the National Juvenile Court Data Archive by more than 2,200 courts with jurisdiction over 81% of the juvenile population in 2007.
