Describes delinquency cases handled between 1985 and 2008 and petitioned status offense cases handled between 1995 and 2008 by U.S. courts with juvenile jurisdiction. Courts with juvenile jurisdiction may handle a variety of matters, including child abuse and neglect, traffic violations, child support, and adoptions. This OJJDP Report focuses on cases involving juveniles charged with law violations (delinquency or status offenses). The data used in the analyses were contributed to the National Juvenile Court Data Archive by nearly 2,300 courts with jurisdiction over 82% of the juvenile population in 2008.
